anxious heart poetics
i left them in Seattle
pulling creatures out from under my mane
we're riding the same wave
the same wave
with your left hand and your right eye
held you up to the sky
and saw my shadow
you're one step over the edge
and i am one step back from the line
maybe if we reached out
at the same time
heavy hitters contemplating their next big move
but if you're gonna swing those fists
then you have to ask
where's it gonna land
the fields are bruised half as bad
mishap misfit
large lipped hypocrite
carrying such a heavy load
cause i wanted to love it
but i left it all alone
turned over once
turned over twice
heaved the sigh every creature
knows
it's cryptic and caged
wilder than a snake
wraps round your arm
then hangs up ugly
held by my own horns
the crash rings empty
the halls ring silent
the heart renders blank
as the story unfolds
and now i'm joining the army
standing in harms way
cause i feel safer in a uniform
and as your head falls to the ground
it echos only as long
as we exhale
